Unicorn Children’s Foundation 7 Day Heads or Tails Challenge raises funds for virtual programs to help those with special needs
Boca Raton FL – August 7, 2020 – The Unicorn Children’s Foundation hosted its first virtual fundraiser to support programs for children and adults with special needs. The 7 Day Heads or Tails Challenge, presented by Smart for Life, took place daily between July 25 and July 31, 2020 and raised over $6,100 for virtual support programs for kids with special needs and their families. The event was kicked off by one of the Kings of Comedy, Cedric the Entertainer, who volunteered his time to help the most vulnerable and isolated families in our communities.
There were 7 lucky winners who took home over $1,000 in prizes, but the real winners are children with special needs and their families! It was an incredible feat to correctly guess the results of the coin toss for 7 consecutive days. The first place winner of the $500 Amazon Gift card, Angela Fisher, donated her winnings back to the organization to support additional expansion of these much needed therapy, education, social recreation and support programs.
Sharon Alexander, CEO of Unicorn Children’s Foundation, states “The pandemic has drastically impacted most of our lives and the degree of social isolation is even more challenging for families whose children have special needs. On a positive note, our ability to conduct virtual support programs and fundraising events has expanded our geographic outreach for people to benefit from and participate. Our global community has grown and we are truly getting through this together!”
The sponsors and game players have made a significant difference to ensure that kids and young adults with special needs can live a life of dignity and purpose and their parents have some comfort in knowing that supports and resources are available. A very special thank you to the coin toss sponsors and game ambassadors: A & R Wealth Management Group of Stifel Financial, The Atlantic Group of Oppenheimer, Inc., Moss, Krusick & Associates, LLC, Bill Kruegel, Wyndham Hotel Boca Raton, Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort, Boca West Children's Foundation, Florida Seminole Region Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), and the ClubsHELP FLCMAA Seminole Region 100-Hole Challenge.
The Unicorn Children’s Foundation will continue to expand support for cradle to career pathways for kids and young adults with special needs that will eventually be offered in person at the Unicorn Connection Center, a one stop shop to support families whose children have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Until such time, virtual program will expand to provide coaching, consultation, learning opportunities, recreation, vocational training, and employment opportunities for individuals with diverse abilities to improve health and wellness, social connections, and life skill development.
Be sure to sign up for the Unicorn Children’s Foundation newsletter to ensure that you are updated as we continue to expand our virtual program offerings at the virtual Unicorn Connection Center. We continue innovating to ensure that the most vulnerable members of society have opportunities to find meaning and purpose as engaged members of the “virtual” community.
