85% of children with special needs are victims of bullying by their peers, and are 2 to 3 times more likely to be bullied than non-disabled students. Unicorn Children’s Foundation launched Creating Compassionate Children, an international campaign designed to help students build a culture of understanding, acceptance, inclusion, and most importantly, respect. By educating children at an early age about differences and including children with special needs as friends in their social environments, research has shown that we can foster caring peer support and eliminate bullying.
