The staff of Unicorn Children's Foundation visited the Mailman Segal Center for Human Development! Learning about the progress that has been made since Unicorn Children’s Foundation contributed $1,000,000 for an Endowed Chair in Communications and Learning Disorders. The Unicorn Children’s Foundation Clinics have now expanded to include: challenging behavior disorder clinic; feeding disorder clinic, and; a developmental assessment clinic. Excited about our conversations regarding potential ground breaking, collaborative opportunities. A very special thank you to the supporters from 2003-2008 who made this possible. You have so significantly impacted so many families lives.

REST Training at the Unicorn Children's Foundation
At Unicorn Children’s Foundation, we are dedicated to support families and individuals challenged by special needs. That is why we have a REST (Respite Education and Support Tools) certified trainer to train Companions and Trainers. One of our volunteers, Lachyn, was inspired to start a club after she completed a REST Training course with our Program Operations Coordinator, Ivonne Rodriguez! Here's her story in her own words...
9 young adults were selected for a year-long pre-employment internship program at Boca West Country Club to learn competitive, transferable, and marketable job skills in an integrated setting. Unicorn Children's Foundation has developed relationships with wonderful partners who are allowing us to redefine what's possible for people with special needs! Thank you to Matthew Linderman, Boca West Country Club, and Boca West Children's Foundation for giving our students a chance!

Testimonials
Below is an email that was received from one of the applicants for next year’s class at Boca West Country Club. Emily is currently in a boarding school in Massachusetts. Sharon met her parents at the SNAC Housing Solutions Summit who approached her in tears wondering what would happen to their daughter when she ages out. They flew her down specifically for the skills assessment day and, if accepted, they will be relocating her to Boca to be part of this program.
Dear Ms.Falconer and Ms. Alexander,
Thank you for allowing me to go to participate in the Skills Assessment Day at Boca West Country Club, I thought each of the tasks there were interesting. After I graduate from Riverview School, I would like the opportunity to continue my work-training growth with you please. I look forward to hearing back from you. It was nice seeing you and all the staff today.
Sincerely, Emily
Another story from the Skills Assessment Day: We had an applicant who 6 years ago required a personal aide and had a code word when his behavior became uncontrollable at his previous school. Additionally, most of his conversations revolved around Disney movie scripts. After attending Unicorn Village Academy for the past 5 years, he now takes Uber to a part-time job where he recently received a raise following his performance review. At the assessment, he was identified as the top pick by all department managers. Some of the characteristics that were shared included: self-starter, critical self-checker, best conversationalist, detail oriented, and meticulous.

Unicorn Celebrates Autism Awareness Month
City Council Member Robert Weinroth and our Vice-President and Author of this book, Melissa Burkhardt, read “Exceptionally Good Friends: Building Relationships with Autism” to a classroom today at Crosspointe Elementary School in Boynton Beach.
This is a story told from the perspective of a child welcoming a new student with autism to her class and then the story is repeated from the perspective of the child with autism responding to the changes in his routine as he enters this new class.
Unicorn Children’s Foundation is collaborating with the School District and City Council Members to create awareness, acceptance, and kindness for #AutismAwarenessMonth!
