Tribute to Stanley Greenspan, M.D.

"Each child is unique in his or her wishes, aspirations, and challenges.  Children with special needs often have significant challenges in the way they take in sounds and words, plan and carry out actions, and regulate basic sensations.  New insights and approaches to assessments, diagnosis and intervention, however, are enabling parents, clinicians, and educators to help all children improve their chances of mastering their challenges, translate their wishes into organized actions and ideas, relate warmly to others, and enjoy communicating and thinking.  The Unicorn Children's Foundation is leading our national effort to enable each and every child to benefit from these new insights to pursue the growth of their minds, finding their dreams, and making their aspirations become a reality.

    ~Stanley I. Greenspan

You should know (and maybe Unicorn's supporters also) that, in the mid to late 1990's, the Unicorn Children's Foundation helped him achieve many of his professional goals. We helped financially, organizationally, administratively and professionally. We were instrumental in helping him to establish the ICDL, the yearly conference, the Guidelines project and many of his other dreams. These and his many other legacies live on…

His passion for his work was endless and very infectious. He loved every aspect of what he did.  After seeing patients in his home office for 9-10 hours he would work with me for another 3-4 hours. He did not mind being called at anytime, and, in fact, my usual time slot for speaking to him on the phone was 11:30PM-12:30AM!

I am proud to have worked with him and everyone at Unicorn should be proud of what we all accomplished together…

Sincerely,
