Why did you decide to get involved with Unicorn Children’s Foundation?

Unicorn has always been close to my heart. They provided vital guidance when I needed unbiased information and I wanted to give back.

 

What part of Unicorn Children’s Foundation do you get most excited about?

The creation of a one of a kind high school for children with neurodiversity.

 

What do you see in the future for Unicorn Children’s Foundation?

I believe this high school will be a game changer for Unicorn. We are evolving from a fund-raising organization to a service provider. While fund-raising will remain at the core of what Unicorn does, the money to support this high school will provide an unprecedented opportunity for the community both local and national to see the kind of work that we do and its impact on the individual and society.

 

What is your profession? What company do you work for and what is your position?

I am a nutritionist by profession but really a full time mom. I work for my children, and any other child who needs a strong, supportive voice to ensure their right to live a happy and productive life.

 

How would you describe yourself?

Lucky!!! I have an amazing family that is supportive and loving.

I am actually shy.

 

What is the most important thing you have learned over the years?

Don't act shy. It gets you nowhere.

 

Do you have a motto, or some words of wisdom, that has guided you through your life?

Friendship is the inexpressible comfort of having neither to weigh thoughts or measure words. T. Elliot

 

What is your proudest personal accomplishment?

My children! When this high school opens that will be a close second!

 

What is your vision and hope for the future?

That our local and national community will grow to include neuro-diverse populations in all walks of life. We need to reinforce education from elementary to college that meets the needs of these individuals to prepare them for independent lives.

 

What do you still hope to accomplish?

I am hoping to spread our vision of the high school to communities throughout the country. Then move on to adult services.

 

What is something your parents taught you that you will never forget?

Prejudice is evil and we are all children of G-d.

 

How do you stay so motivated and committed?

I wake up everyday and witness the personal challenges and struggles of individuals on different ends of the spectrum. I am inspired to help them achieve their hearts desires, in a world that is understanding and tolerant of individual differences. We embrace uniqueness and celebrate each and every accomplishment.

 

What is a moment you will never forget?

When my daughter was diagnosed with autism. It was as if the child I loved, dreamed of and knew was suddenly taken away. Thankfully, that feeling quickly passed as we started on a journey towards acceptance and growth.

 

Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?

My husband!

 

What are your favorite leisure time activities or hobbies?

Going to restaurants and hanging with family and friends.

 

Is there an inspirational book you have read that you would recommend to others?

The Power of Now

 

If you were going to be on a Space Shuttle for about a year, what one item would you have to take with you?

My cell phone…hopefully it would work.

 

What would you still like to learn how to do?

Entertain

 

How do we get our young people more interested in charitable giving and community volunteering?

Set a good example.

 

What would you like to see happen in our world, let’s say, five years from now?

A two state solution for Israel and Palestine, a growing economy, peace, and acceptance of an individual's right to live free and happy.

 

What can we personally do to make things better for future generations?

Teach tolerance.
