Unicorn Children’s Foundation 2nd Annual Golf & Games Tournament Raises Over $170,000 (February 22, 2010)
Boca Raton, FL [March 30, 2010] — Over 200 golfers, gamers and sports celebrities joined in on some friendly competition during Unicorn Children’s Foundation’s 2nd Annual Golf & Games Tournament presented by Granite Transformations. The fun-filled day held on February 22, 2010 at Delaire Country Club raised over $170,000 to support programs and initiatives on behalf of children with developmental, communication, and learning disorders! The day was highlighted by the participation of Aaron Cabrera, a Parkland teen who was diagnosed with autism. He played in his first tournament with his father Dr. Rafael Cabrera. “It was one of the most eventful days of his life. He had such a good time at the entire event and we enjoyed every minute with him” said Aaron’s mother, Lori Cabrera. WPTV Channel 5 picked up on this story as it was broadcast on the 6pm news that same night. The profits from this event will support the expansion of Unicorn’s Community Mobile Developmental Clinic program. These clinics provide free developmental screenings and parent consultations to families in traditionally underserved areas. The first clinic of this type is operated by University of Miami and serves Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties. Over 20,000 individuals were served in its first year of operation. This second clinic will be operational very soon and will provide services to Palm Beach and Treasure Coast counties in partnership with Florida Atlantic University. “Research shows that early identification and intervention are critical variables to setting individuals with varying neurologically-based developmental and learning disorders on a path to a productive and fulfilling life. So many more children will receive the help they need thanks to the participants of this Golf & Games Tournament” said Executive Director, Sharon Alexander. Fabulous auction items also netted substantial funds for the foundation. Exclusive packages included boutiques by Aya International and The Valeria Collection, an exquisite diamond bracelet from Rosenberg Diamonds & Co., and a $24,000 10-day cruise aboard The World. The fun has only just begin as Unicorn will wrap up it’s fundraising season with Denim, Diamonds and Dice Casino Night premiering on April 23rd at Broken Sound Country Club in Boca Raton.
